Aging-in-Place
in Condo and Hi-Rise Conference Report – October 2003: |
|
|
This report is
the conference proceedings of the Aging-in-Place: How to Cope Conference
that was held on October 25, 2003 at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium.
In cooperation with other groups, ALOH co-sponsored this event in
hopes of bringing light to this yet silent issue of the growing number
of seniors who are becoming frail in condos, co-ops, townhouses and
high rise apartments throughout Hawaii. A significant number of facilities
for example were built during the 1960s and 1970s and today, their
owner-occupants have aged in place. Numerous issues related to frailty,
mental incapacity are challenging condo associations, rental and
resident managers and apartment owners while they attempt to meet
the needs of the non-elderly at the same time. This report provides
a glimpse of things to come and the work that yet needs to be done.
