Assisted Living Options Hawaii is a tax-exempt (501-c-3) nonprofit association of caring professionals and consumers dedicated to encouraging the development of quality assisted living facilities and other residential options for the senior and disabled population of Hawaii.

The mission of ALOH is to promote the concept and principles of assisted living through educational seminars, to encourage the development of affordable assisted living facilities and to support all forms of residential long-term care options.  The association's name - Assisted Living Options Hawaii - reflects ALOH's hopes of encouraging all residential options while emphasizing the primacy of assisted living principles.

TRENDS

13.7% and GROWING -- In the year 2000, Hawaii is estimated to have approximately 163,000 people over 65 years of age. This represents 13.7% of the total population.

GROWING at 2.5 to 3 TIMES NATIONAL AVERAGE -- Hawaii's elderly population is growing 2.5 to 3 times faster than the rest of the U.S. mainland states. While Hawaii has had a younger average age since statehood, the proportion over age 65 will explode after the year 2000.
